Matt Temkin has been a student of firearms and self defense for over 50 years.

His first instructor was his dad, a combat veteran of Darby’s Rangers in WW2 who taught him close quarter shooting and unarmed combat.

Matt is a retired peace officer with the NYC Court System where he served 32 years as a Court Officer and supervisor which allowed him to train extensively with many experts in the field of security and law enforcement.

Matt has taught advanced combat shooting classes at police instructor training conferences for the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors Association (IALEFI) and the Massachusetts Association of Firearms Instructors & Armorers Association (MLEFIAA) as well as for police & military personnel in Sweden, Poland and the U.K.

Matt is certified by the NYS Department of Justice as an Armed Security Guard and a Use of Force Instructor.

Matt was also an instructor’s instructor for the NYC Mayors Task Force on Rape where he taught self defense to female instructors of rape crisis centers.

In the 1980’s many of Matt’s self defense articles were published in Black Belt, Karate Illustrated and Warriors magazines.

Matt was also featured in a point shooting video produced by Paladin Press in 2010.
